Albemarle, NC 鈥 黑料正能量 (SCC) continues its year-long 50th anniversary celebration by honoring two groups who helped shape the College鈥檚 history, alumni and retirees.
This winter, alumni representing all five of SCC鈥檚 decades were on campus and had
the opportunity to reunite and
reminisce about their time as students. The evening鈥檚 speakers featured a graduate
from each decade, including Gerald Poplin (Class of 1974), Kathy Almond (Class of
1982), Amy Stauch (Class of 1993), Randi Roberts (Class of 2005) and Amy Ray (Class
of 2017).
The speakers were also recognized as former presidents of SCC鈥檚 Student Government Association or Phi Beta Lambda chapter.
During closing remarks, current Student Government Association President Cassidy Ball stated, 鈥淚 have been entertained by the stories these graduates have told, and I have also been inspired. You are the result of this outstanding college where students learn the skills to become strong workers and leaders in professional and civic areas. You have set high standards for future decades of graduates from Stanly Community College.鈥
The College鈥檚 retirees will be honored at a luncheon on Wednesday, May 25, in the Webb Student Center. Invitations will be mailed to individuals with addresses on file; however, retirees are also encouraged to call Jessica Smith at 704-991-0192 or Dan Hazlett at 704-991-0216 to provide updated mailing address information.
鈥淚鈥檝e been an SCC employee since classes began in 1972, and I鈥檓 looking forward to seeing these extraordinary men and women who I鈥檝e had the pleasure to work with through the years,鈥 said Dan Hazlett, SCC Student Life Advisor. 鈥淭his will definitely be a highlight of the 50th Anniversary celebration, and I hope a large number of retirees will attend to get an update on the College and 鈥榗atch up鈥 with former colleagues.鈥
The 50th Anniversary celebration will conclude on Saturday, July 16, with a community-wide party on the Albemarle campus with live music, food trucks, children鈥檚 activities and more.
